Your Hometown Country Connection

Nicole Williams

I am so thrilled to be in the area and get to learn more about you the listeners.  A few things about myself?  Here it goes.  I have been in the radio industry for around 15 years, which is hard to believe.  I began my career in Lynchburg, VA, continued in Radford, VA and now am proud to call myself a resident of PA.  My love for Country music runs deep.  If I could pick one song, which is absolutely a tough decision, I'd choose The Tin Man by Kenny Chesney.  I'm a lover of Billy Joel, America, the Virginia Tech Hokies and my dog Bingo.  It's a simple life, but it makes sense considering my affiliation with the best music on Earth.  I look forward to getting to know you and appreciate your continued support and love for all of us here at WAYZ.

Meet Daisy May! Daisy May was transferred from another shelter 5/23/15, when she was about 4 years old. This sweet, beautiful lady is a little shy at first but warms up quickly once she gets to know you. It won't take long for Daisy May to place her paws in your lap, offering snuggles. She's actually quite the cuddle pup. Daisy May loves toys and is quite vocal when she wants your attention. She has energy to spare, so a generous amount of daily exercise and playtime is in order. Daisy May would like to meet any dogs you currently have at home, to be sure of mutual admiration. She seems to like children and is an all-around great dog. It's not her fault that she pulls a little hard on leash and doesn't understand basic commands. No one has taken the time to teach her but, with your help she will learn! Sweet Daisy May is ready to begin the next chapter of her life; the chapter where she's loved to the moon and back by her very own family. A fenced yard would be perfect.

Freddie! Freddie is a male orange tabby. He's got the looks and the charm to back it up. He was brought to the shelter as a stray, so we have no information about his background. He is approximately two years old and a little on the shy side, but warms up nicely.

Dolly- Hello Dolly! This beautiful orange and white girl is looking for her forever home. She was brought to the shelter a few months ago as a stray. Dolly is approximately two years old. Just one look at her tells you that she was not a stray. She is very affectionate and loves to be petted.

HI, I'M COPPER! DO YOU LIKE TO RUN AND PLAY, THEN RUN AND PLAY SOME MORE? ME TOO!

Copper Joe was surrendered to us 5/15/15, he was 1 year old. The owners living situation changed and they could no longer care for him. Copper can be somewhat shy and tentative at first, but he quickly warms up to new people. Once he knows you're his friend, Copper becomes downright cuddly and affectionate...very sweet! He's quite vocal when he wants your attention, so you'll need to be sure this won't cause a problem with neighbors. This smart boy will sit on command and will do anything for a treat. Copper's previous owners stated that he was house trained but protested about being crated. He lived with a smaller dog and enjoyed playing pretty rough. He seems to do best with friendly, submissive dogs who don't challenge him. A meeting between Copper and any dogs you have at home will be necessary, to ensure compatibility. The previous owners advised that he's not a fan of kitty cats, although we will be happy to 'test' him at the shelter. He loves car rides and will be happy to accompany you on outings. Copper's ideal home will have adults and older, gentle children. This handsome boy has lots of energy and will need plenty of daily exercise and playtime. If you understand and love herding breeds, Copper just might be your guy! A securely fenced yard would be ideal.

Two weeks ago, someone noticed a little kid sitting in a car outside a Sam's Club in in Richmond, Virginia with all the windows rolled up. And it was 87 degrees out, so they called the police.

The mom is 25-year-old Laquanda Newby, who was inside shopping. The cops didn't arrest her, but she agreed to turn herself in later for contributing to the abuse of a child.

She wasn't facing any jail time, so she showed up at the police station on Monday to deal with the citation . . . and left her kid in the car AGAIN.

It was 91 degrees out, and while she was inside talking to the cops, someone found her car sitting in the parking lot with all the windows up.

This time there were TWO kids in there . . . her six-year-old and her one-year-old BABY. She'd also left the keys on the floorboard.

According to police, they'd been sitting there for over an hour, but were okay. They stayed at the station until their dad came to pick them up.

Meanwhile, Laquanda is now facing two more charges of contributing to the abuse of a child, and a judge denied her bond. So as of Tuesday, she was still in jail.

Meet Eli! Eli is a young man that's just recently turned one. He may be young, but he is very calm for his age and enjoys getting a little attention whenever he can. Eli is hoping his forever person will soon come in to get him. He'll be waiting with the rest of our kitties and hope to see you soon!

HI, I'M TIA! I'M A SHY GIRL IN NEED OF PATIENCE & UNDERSTANDING!

Beautiful Tia was surrendered to us 1/29/15, when she was about 5 years old. The owner stated they were unable to properly care for her. We believe this sweetheart spent a year prior to her surrender living in an outdoor pen. This shy, skittish girl adores people but takes a cautious approach in making new friends. Once Tia knows you're her friend, she's very affectionate and attentive. She will sit on command, has respectable leash manners and takes treats gently from your hands. Due to her energy level and lack of experience as a house dog, Tia's not the pup for first time dog owners. Positive reinforcement and lots of praise will be key when it comes to things like house training. Toys were a mystery to Tia when she arrived, so staffers and volunteers are showing her what play is all about. She doesn't protest when we take toys away from her. Tia will most likely need to be an only pet as she's not inclined to share her persons with other furry friends. This energetic lady will need lots of daily exercise and playtime. As with most herding dogs, Tia needs to stay busy and mentally stimulated. A securely fenced yard would be ideal. Are you the one who will offer Tia the love and understanding she's been waiting for?
