Your Hometown Country Connection

Night time is the right time!
I've been a night person all my life and this is the first time anyone's appreciated it! I was born in Philadelphia and lived many years in the Baltimore area. I've loved radio since I was a kid and consider myself extremely lucky to do it for a living. I'm a 2002 graduate of the DC campus of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, I'm a writer, musician and cartoonist in my free time. And I'm a huge fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and Sixers as well as the Maryland Terrapins.

Have you ever gotten the birthday restaurant ambush? It's agonizing and mortifying and the whole nine. The staff gathers around your table and they sing while every person in the place stares at you like you're some kind of goofball.

It happened to me once. It was in a mexican restaurant and they sang to me in Spanish, which was kind of cool. But it was mostly embarassing. The only good thing about it was that instead of giving me a birthday cake as is often the custom, they gave me flan with a birthday candle in it. I have loved flan ever since and that day was the first time I had ever had it. If you've never tried it, do yourself a favor; it's delicious.

Since then I have avoided restaurants on or around my birthday. My sister has always had lasangna made by my mom as her birthday dinner. I don't get a birthday dinner since my mom's birthday is the same day as mine and it would be kind of rude of me to expect her to cook for me on her birthday. And since, as I said, I don't go anywhere near restaurants on my birthday I usually end up cooking for myself or ordering out. I don't mind this, though. I try to make it fun. Cheers
