Your Hometown Country Connection

Night time is the right time!
I've been a night person all my life and this is the first time anyone's appreciated it! I was born in Philadelphia and lived many years in the Baltimore area. I've loved radio since I was a kid and consider myself extremely lucky to do it for a living. I'm a 2002 graduate of the DC campus of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, I'm a writer, musician and cartoonist in my free time. And I'm a huge fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and Sixers as well as the Maryland Terrapins.

Procrastination, Cartoons and How I'm Spending Saturday Night

It's Saturday, and I'm at work even though I'm not on the air tonight. Why? The dreaded vacation hangover. This has nothing to do with alcohol consumption and everything to do with the sluggishness that ensues when you return to work after a good, relaxing vacation.

When I got here on Monday I couldn't seem to get myself into gear. So I put off a few things, thinking, "Tomorrow I'll be on top of it." Then the same thing happened the next day, then the next, and before I knew it it was Friday and I still couldn't quite get myself all the way into gear. That's a good analogy, so I'll go with it: I couldn't get myself all the way into gear, and so I ground my gears all week.

Last night I was going to get all caught up. I told myself that I wasn't going to let myself go home until every last task I had still incomplete was finished. Then one delay led into another and the next thing I knew it was 1:30 in the morning, I was completely exhausted, and I said, "OK, I'll come in tomorrow, knock it all out."

I even set myself a timetable. I figured I'd get here around 4, be really diligent, and knock out my whole list. But then I woke up today. I felt totally refreshed, as though I had caught up on all the rest I had missed out on all week. I was raring to go. That lasted until I turned on the TV and saw there was a Teen Titans Go! marathon on Cartoon Network. I love that show. It's hilarious. If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out. And then I looked at the clock and it was nearly 5. So I shut off Robin and company and finally made my way to the station.

So here I am now, working on stuff I should have done days ago. It's nobody's fault but mine that I'm here at work while most everyone else I know is out enjoying their Saturday night. If nothing else I intend to take a lesson from this: STOP PROCRASTINATING ALREADY!!! It never helps. All that ever happens is I end up having to do everything from today along with everything from yesterday and the day before and all of a sudden that small, manageable list of tasks becomes a big overwhelming mountain. The to-do list grows longer and longer while the day gets shorter and shorter.

So I'm going to wrap this up and start knocking that list out, and the next time I go on vacation I'll make sure I don't let this happen again. Cheers.
