1.  It’s impossible to die in quicksand in the way that’s depicted in old movies, which used to show people basically drowning in it.

 

 

Quicksand is denser than the human body, so people and animals can get trapped in it . . . but while you could be immobilized, you wouldn’t get sucked down past your waist.  And if you do get stuck, it HELPS to move around.

 

 

2.  The first U.S. census in 1790 only had these options for race:  Slaves . . . free white females and males . . . and all other free people.

 

 

3.  The average professional baseball player has 20/12 vision, which is much better than most other people . . . and obviously they need it to see 90 and 100 mile-per-hour fastballs.

 

 

4.  Tennis got its name in the 1200s from the old French word “tenez,” which means “receive.”  People used to shout that before they served.

 

 

5.  Chris Rock was reportedly considered for the part of George on “Seinfeld”.  He later said they made “the right choice” in going with Jason Alexander.
