Travelers may often try to bring different snacks through security with them to avoid hunger and while some items are banned, rotisserie chickens are allowed.

“Protein shakes? 3.4 oz or less,” the TSA said in a post on X on Monday.

“But rotisserie chickens??? As many as you can fit in your carry-on.”

In a statement to The U.S. Sun, the TSA further confirmed they were allowed saying “solid foods, like rotisserie chicken, are allowed in carry-on bags with no quantity limitations.”

In February, the TSA again told travelers that they are allowed to bring the popular food item on flights.

“Yes, you can absolutely bring an entire rotisserie chicken on an airplane,” the TSA wrote on Facebook, along with a photo of a person carrying a unique bag holding their rotisserie chicken.

Responding to the post on X, the National Chicken Council said they’d like to thank the TSA “for their service.”

Under TSA rules, travelers are allowed to bring several other food items in their carry-on bags.

These items include bread, candy, cooked meat, cookies, nuts, cakes, pizza, and tamales.

Several other items such as canned foods, gravy, honey, hummus, jelly, maple syrup, peanut butter, salad dressing, and soups, are also allowed in carry-on bags if special instructions are followed.

Any sort of liquid or gel must be in a container weighing 3.4 ounces or less, under TSA rules.

In May 2025, a traveler shared a video on TikTok after she was stopped by the TSA for having “something crazy” in her bag.

“A whole rotisserie chicken,” she said.

“This is how you give yourself a first-class experience without paying for first class.”
